MOSCOW, June 3, 2026 — Tanzania and Russia continue to strengthen their diplomatic and economic relationship through high-level discussions aimed at expanding cooperation in trade, tourism, investment, energy, and mineral development. During official talks between Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, both leaders emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation for the mutual benefit of their countries. The discussions focused on increasing trade volumes, attracting investment, and exploring new opportunities in key economic sectors. President Samia highlighted the long-standing relationship between Tanzania and Russia and expressed appreciation for Russia’s historical support during Africa’s liberation movements. “We now have an opportunity to discuss the future development of our countries, but first I must thank Russia for the enormous contribution it made to the liberation of Africa in the 1960s. We have been co-operating with Russia since then and to this day, and Russia has played a huge role in the significant development that we speak about in relation to my country. For this, we are very, very grateful,” President Samia said during the open part of the talks at the Kremlin. The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for decades and continue to work together on various development initiatives. Recent efforts have included strengthening business partnerships, improving transportation links, and encouraging cooperation in natural resources, education, and tourism.   Economic cooperation remains a major area of interest. Government officials and business representatives from both countries have expressed a commitment to creating a more favorable environment for trade and investment. Areas such as mining, energy, agriculture, and infrastructure development are viewed as having significant potential for future collaboration. Tanzania’s engagement with a wide range of international partners reflects its broader foreign policy approach of promoting economic development through global cooperation. By maintaining relationships with different countries and regions, Tanzania seeks to expand investment opportunities, increase trade, and support national development goals. The growing partnership between Tanzania and Russia highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing economic challenges and creating opportunities for sustainable growth. As both nations continue to strengthen their ties, they are expected to pursue initiatives that support development, enhance people-to-people relations, and create new opportunities for shared prosperity.
