Former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand has praised Tanzania’s investment in sports infrastructure, describing the country’s hospitality and commitment to sports development as exceptional.
Speaking on May 21 during a visit to the ongoing construction of the Arusha Sports Complex, Ferdinand said he was impressed by the warm reception he had received since arriving in Tanzania, adding that he had rarely experienced such hospitality elsewhere in the world.
“ The reception I have received in Tanzania has been truly special. The people are very welcoming, the food is excellent and, overall, Tanzania is a beautiful country,” Ferdinand said.
The former football star said every place he had visited in Tanzania was marked by warmth, respect and generosity from local residents, making him feel at home.
Ferdinand added that the hospitality he experienced had encouraged him to return to the country and strengthen cooperation with Tanzania in the development of sports.
He also commended progress on the construction of the Arusha Sports Complex, describing it as one of the most impressive modern sporting facilities he had seen and a reflection of Tanzania’s commitment to advancing the sports sector.
“I have played in many stadiums around the world, but this facility stands out for its quality and modern standards. I congratulate the builders, contractors and all experts involved in implementing this important project,” he said.
Ferdinand said he plans to return to Tanzania once the stadium is completed to witness its impact firsthand, noting that investment in modern sports facilities is essential for nurturing talent and promoting the growth of football in the country.
